The Tranny Tribune - September 2007

Welcome to the Trib

Welcome to the September 2007 issue of the Tranny Trib.

Crashing the Mercedes of good taste into the tunnel of your inbox, The Tranny Tribune is here to bring you up to date with developments in our community this month. Sorry this issue is a bit late. It's been a busy time with one thing and another.

I'm pleased to say that our Trannyweb music project is starting to move ahead and I can now reveal that we have opted for that good old Shania Twain tranny anthem, "Man! I feel like a woman". There's a surprise! Our band is called T-Girl Riot and although the music bit is recorded and ready to go, we do still need more vocalists. There's more on this and how you can become involved yourself, below right.

Another exciting development is the prospect of our first Trannyweb Girly Night Out in Chicago, Illinois - home of the pig sickle, Mrs O'Leary's cow, the Cubs, the White Sox, the Bears, maker of meat on a bone and spare ribber for the world... as Hawkeye once said in an episode of Mash. If you live nearby, we'd like to see you there in your best frock. There more on this below as well, along with news of our next outing in the UK.

Please also find Anyfer Darling's review of our last outing to Pink Punters in Milton Keynes, UK, which took place at the end of last month. That should give you an idea of what you've been missing out on. You can find Anyfer's review at the bottom of this page.

Bennie Lee Ferguson has been busy on the hustings again this month as she heads for glory in the Oval Office. Trannyweb's Robin Webb talks to her in this issue, about the things that matter when you are a transvestite politician.

Hugs, Katie xxxx

THE FIRST TW GIRLIE NIGHT(S) OUT IN CHICAGO!

Chicago - The Toddling Town

Meredith “Scoop” Newton welcomes any and all girls to Chicago for our first official TW Midwest events!

The first event, which will be on a date still to be determined, will take place at the end of September.  Noelle Chimes will be visiting my fair city for her anniversary, and once that date is set all are welcome to meet up with us.  As soon as Noelle knows which days she will be visiting I will post an official announcement, as well as an itinerary.

The BIG date will then follow on Saturday, October 20.  Among the following activities can include, but are not limited to:

  • A trip to the Museum of Science and Industry, where I work
  • Shopping, shopping, and more shopping
  • Chicago history boat ride
  • Shopping
  • Dinner and nightlife starting at XO, a TG-friendly restaurant and bar in the “Boys Town” section of Chicago on North Halsted Street.
  • And if there's any time left, more shopping!

As soon as I have a body count, I can make firm plans as to where we go, what we do, and who we do it to(!).  You are welcome to either one, or both, events.

I can help find a hotel/motel to your liking, as well as with travel arrangements.  I have a studio apartment, so I really would not be able to house more than 1-2 people there.

Come on out to the Windy City!  Dress appropriately.  Chicago has all four seasons.  Often in the same day.

Please contact me either through TW here or through my e-mail addy at oakman_7@hotmail.com.

Do you feel like a woman? Can You Sing?

The Trannyweb Transgender Music Project we mentioned a few issues back is starting to move forward and we are now looking for some TW girls to be our singers.

I should point out that this is a non-profit venture and we won't be selling it. We will simply make it available for free to all and sundry on the Trannyweb site.

Likewise, there is no payment for anyone who gets involved. It's just a bit of fun between friends.

Trannyweb member, Penny Layne, is now in charge of the project and has started our girly band. They're called T-Girl Riot (very appropriate) and so far the band consists of names such as Lucy Diamond, Nikki Hollm, Allie Jantzen, Jayne McGregor, Jasmine (aka Queen T) and Sophie X.

Why, we even have a MySpace T-Girl Riot band page at:

http://www.myspace.com/tgirlriot

The girls have decided on Shania Twain's "Man! I feel like a woman" for their first offering and Penny has already created a backing track at her studio in Delaware. You can hear it by clicking the following links:

Man! I Feel Like a Woman - with vocal

Man! I Feel Like a Woman - Instrumental Version

...and the lyrics are here.

Try singing along with it and if you think your voice is up to it, please let us know. We're looking for a number of singers, not just one, who can record their vocals at home and send them over to us to include in the final mix.

If you'd like to be part of all this you'll also need to be happy about possibly appearing in the video which we hope will eventually accompany the song.

If we haven't completely scared you off and you'd still like to be involved in this project, please drop a line to Penny by following this link.

Tranny News Around The World In Brief

Tranny State Workers Protected

Governor Kathleen Sebelius

Kansas Governor, Kathleen Sebelius, has issued an executive order which makes it illegal to discriminate against state employees because of their sexual orientation or gender identity, regardless of their job performance.

The order will protect more than 37,000 state employees from being denied jobs, fired or discriminated against because they are lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender. The order takes effect immediately.

A US national and international gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender civil rights organization, Equality Forum, has also announced that 470 of this year's Fortune 500 companies voluntarily include sexual orientation in their employment nondiscrimination policies. That's 94% of them.

Transgender Teacher keeps his job

Since 1995 music teacher, Leslie Webster, has taught at the Duke School for Children in Durham, North Carolina, a private kindergarten through eighth grade school.

Now Ms Webster has become Mr Webster and this week, the school sent a letter to parents saying that teachers would discuss the sex change with students who were taught by Webster last year.

A number of parents are calling for Mr Webster to leave but for now, the school is keeping him on.

Next UK Trannyweb Girly Night Out

Please contact Maryanne Talmadge or Justine Cairnes if you'd like to go along.

The Trannyweb Celebrity Interview

This month, Trannyweb's Robyn Webb talks to US Presidential Candidate and transvestite, Bennie Lee Ferguson...

Robyn Webb
Bennie Lee

Trannyweb member Bennie Lee Ferguson has recently announced her candidacy as an independent for the office of President of the United States.  Bennie will also be challenging Republican incumbent Michael O'Neal for the Kansas House of Representatives seat in Kansas District 104.

Ferguson resides in America's heartland, Hutchinson, Kansas, and is bravely facing the challenge of being an openly transgender candidate for the House seat, and may be the first openly transgender candidate for the office of President.  She is a staunch Libertarian, and is the official Libertarian candidate and her name will be on the ballot.

Bennie is a half-time student at Wichita State University, majoring in American History, and a long time resident of Hutchinson.  She is well known in her legislative district, having run for the same legislative seat during last year's midterm election.

As Candidate Ferguson approaches her second anniversary as a member of Trannyweb, she and I have enjoyed a long email correspondence, during which we have shared and discussed our views on a variety of political issues, and though we rarely agree, we recognize that the free exchange of ideas is the essential element to the successful democratic process.  Though our discussions on these issues have generally been in a one to one context, since her declaration of candidacy for public office, our ongoing debate has become more public as it has spilled over into the Trannyweb Political Forum.

While it is apparent to anyone who has followed this exchange in the forum that we are distinctly polarized, and that our disagreement on various issues appears vehement, I would emphasize that Bennie and I have been friends ever since she came to Trannyweb two years ago, and that our personal relationship is unaffected by our philosophical differences.  On one thing we both agree, that the sharing of dissenting opinions in an atmosphere of academic debate is in keeping with the principles upon which our nation was founded.  It is in this spirit that Candidate Ferguson has kindly consented to answer a few questions concerning her philosophy and her candidacy, that our members might draw their own informed conclusions.  Our conversation follows:

RW:  What compelled you to run for public office?

BF:  In response to this question, I always say that there are both recreational and serious components in regard to my political activities.  I'm a bit of a political junky and the entire business is fun for me.  It has been since I was a yippie (politically-oriented hippie) in the late sixties.  On the serious side, I genuinely feel that my candidacies serve in some small way to impact the political landscape, hopefully for the better.  At the heart of it all is a determination to help maintain the basic civil rights and liberties we enjoy as Americans.

RW:  For those unfamiliar with it, how would you characterize the basic political philosophy of the Libertarian Party?

BF:  You could ask this question of a hundred Libertarians and get a hundred different answers.  For me, the most attractive aspect of the Libertarian Party is its insistence on the maintenance of basic civil rights and liberties.  Of course, the methods used to achieve this goal are a source of considerable debate within the party.  For instance, one Libertarian recently referred to me as a "hypocrite" because I generally support U.S. military operations and goals in the Persian Gulf, her rationale being that the very civil rights and liberties I insist on are being denied to Iraqis because of our military presence.  I disagree with that contention, but it is illustrative of the debate within the party concerning this issue.

RW:
How would you characterize some of the current front running major party presidential candidates?

BF:  An in-depth analysis of each of the front-runners would prove to lengthy for this interview.  I am a former Republican and member of that party's Log Cabin GLBT (Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgendered) organization and am, therefore, inclined to be supportive of fiscally conservative, national security-oriented, and socially enlightened candidates from the moderate ranks of the GOP.  My gut feeling is that Clinton is primarily in it for the power and glory.  Obama is too inexperienced and too far to the left.  Of the Republican candidates, Giulliani most exemplifies the mix of fiscal conservatism, national security concern, and social enlightenment to which I just referred.

RW:  The principle issue confronting President Bush and all of the 2008 presidential candidates is the war in Iraq.  What is your view with regard to a continued American military presence in that region?

BF: Our goal in these conflicts should be victory and nothing less. Our government and the American people should do whatever is necessary to support our troops in the field and victory in these conflicts. Whether or not these conflicts are the result of ill-advised policy is beside the point. Having become involved, it is incumbent upon the United States to see these conflicts through to a successful conclusion. This is increasingly becoming an issue which affects individual states since so much our fighting force in this conflict is drawn from National Guard and Reserve units.

Girls Night Out

Trannyweb member Anyfer Darling tells us about her first night out with the TW Girls at Pink Punters...

Samantha Smith with Anyfer

Justine asked me to write a few words about the girls weekend on August 25th this year and of course gracing our presence, or should it be inflicting ourselves hehe, on PP's (Pink Punters.)

Firstly, I would like to set out my perspective. I have been TS since puberty. I have been struggling with identity crisis for as long as I can remember being that my feelings are different to what is socially expected by what I now know as moggles. This was going to be my first time out in public as Anyfer.

I set out for the Campanile Hotel on Saturday morning quite ambivalent with feelings of excitement and sheer horror. When I arrived my hands were shaking and sweaty. I pulled myself together and decided that I am going out as the real me no matter what, a girl's got to do what a girl's got to do!

I put more effort in to dressing because although I have been dressing for over 20 years and got a few good tips from my x RG's, I didn’t know if my standard was good enough. However, when I met the girls for the first time everyone was so nice and accepted me for who I was.  The meal was a great way to meet the girls and get introduced. The food was good too! By that time I had already had four double Bacardi and Cokes to help settle the nerves - lol! That’s a good excuse, I’ll have to use that one again!

The Trannyweb Girls at Pink Punters

We got over to PP's just before 9.30pm so it was FREE ENTRY!! WOOT! It is opposite the Campanile Hotel so no taxi required. Lots of fun people to watch enjoying themselves and plenty of good conversation. Two dance floors and a sitting area on the 3rd floor. Outside is a lovely log fire and a FREE! BBQ. I rolled into my hotel room about half five but I’m not quite sure lol.

I got kicked out of the hotel at 12 noon and headed to MA's for Sunday Roast with the girls. Upon arrival I got handed a Bacardi and Coke and settled down for a very pleasant and relaxing afternoon with good conversation, stuff the hangover – I didn’t have time for that! Lucy cooked an exceptional Sunday Roast!

As evening set in someone casually mentioned PP's and suddenly there was buzzing electricity in the air and comments like “You are forcing me but I’ll go if I must” and “I’m only going to give you girls emotional support!” LOL. Everyone was ready in a snap.

Again PP's was brilliant, fantastic atmosphere and loads of interesting people to chat with. I would say there were 300, maybe 400 people there and many were t-girls. I felt quite comfortable and did not receive any undesirable attention. Lucy showed me a few nifty moves on the dance floor. I have never danced before - another great experience to add to the list.

I have learned more about myself in one weekend than I have in 20 years. If you are in a similar situation to what I was then a weekend out with the girls is a must and the best step any TS can take. I have to say, when home time approached I was holding back a tear for having such a wonderful weekend.  A BIG THANK YOU to Justine, MA, Mags, Char, Lucy, Jay, Lynn, Nikki, Lisa and of course Sammi who will always be the first t-girl I met. You are all so lovely.
