The Tranny Tribune - April 2007

Welcome to the Trib

This Month sees Trannyweb on the cutting edge of new technology as we unveil our new search engine - RitRover.com.

At last web surfers can have a visual indication of what the sites in their search results are like. We are surprised that a little Tranny Organisation like us has managed to do this before any of the big players. Anyway, for a new search experience, please take a look at ritrover.com and there's more info on it in the panel below-right.

We've also just introduced a new visual way for you to see thumbshots of any external links you may find on our community site, which should help make your surfing experience even better.

There's news of our next Cheese & Wine Party and our next Girly Night Out and our new Head of Chat is officially announced.

Tranny US Presidential Candidate, Bennie Lee gets back on "the hustings" and we also have the first in a new series of interviews, suggested by Porscha Palomar, in which she tries to discover how Trannyweb membership has affected the lives on some of our members.

Finally, Anna-Marie Trindall talks about getting the TG message across to the people of her home town in Suffolk, UK. That's our April offering. Please read on....

Trannyweb Member Runs For US President!

You may remember when longtime Trannyweb member, Bennie Lee Ferguson, became the Libertarian candidate for the Kansas House of Representatives, a few months back.

Well, although she was not successful on that occasion, she has not lost any of her political ambitions and has now been formally registered as a candidate for the next US Presidential Election. She is now an official candidate registered with the United States Federal Election Commission.

What does this mean for us and for Bennie? Well obviously, if Bennie should win, the highest political office in America would be held by a tranny girl!

Even if she does not make it to the Oval Office on this occasion, she is sure to become very famous along the way.

Bennie says that this campaign will be a lot more
"tranny-oriented" than her run for the Kansas House last year and she has much more "en femme" campaigning planned this time.

If you'd like to help, Bennie's camp is accepting campaign contributions, but only in the form of personal checks.  They should be made payable to:  Ferguson President Fund, 2708 King Street, Hutchinson, Kansas 67502.

We will of course, keep you up to date with all developments in Bennie's campaign as they occur over the coming months.

New Head Chat Hostess Takes Over

We would like to formally congratulate our new Head of Chat, Maryanne Talmadge (left) on her appointment. In the past there was really nobody in charge of the chat rooms so although there were moderators, there was nobody around to give them any kind of direction or advice.

Maryanne won this appointment in March and is now doing a sterling job with her new team and the old role of moderator has been changed to Chat Hostess. The top job lasts for a period of one year and the next head chat hostess will be voted in by the other hostesses.

Our New search Engine - RitRover.com!

RitRover - the future of search

The way you carry out searches is about to change forever. From now on, instead of getting a page of text results, you will now be able to see a thumbshot of most of the sites listed and also (and dig this...) you'll be able to access a smaller version of each site live, from right within your search results page.

What search engine on earth could possibly offer amazing results like that - Google ? Yahoo?

Nope - I'm proud to announce that the search engine we're talking about is wholly owned by Trannyweb and it's called RitRover.com.

RitRover has a silly name and is not a tranny search engine at all. That means if you are not out and proud, you can still tell all your friends about it and remember that when you do, you will be helping Trannyweb a bit because every time a visitor to RitRover clicks on one of the sponsored adverts, Trannyweb will make a few cents to help us to keep that nasty wolf from the door.

With enough support for our advertisers, we may even be able to think about scrapping our Full Membership fees, but we do need your help with that.

New SnapShot Previews

Katie has been a busy programming girl over the last couple of weeks and has now introduced a new feature which should make surfing through Trannyweb a bit easier.

From now on, all links to external sites should have a little icon to the right of them. Passing your mouse over the icon will bring up a little window which will contain a snapshot of the site at the end of the link.

Here's an example:

http://www.trannystuff.com

Clever eh!

Although it should work all over the site, one of the best pages to try this out on will be our featured links page here:

Please spread the word. Hope that you like it.

What Trannyweb Has Done for Me

Danique Westerveld

In the first in a new series, Porscha Palomar talks to TW members about what Trannyweb has done for them. This month, Danique Westerveld...

Porscha Palomar

Porscha Palomar: What do you think being a member of Trannyweb has done for you?

Danique Westerveld: I believe that being a member of Trannyweb has done a great deal for me. Early on it made me see that there are more ways to look at this life we lead than one. It has also given me many insights into the lives of others and shown me how their experiences reflect upon my own.

It has also made me aware that there are wonderful people out there from all around the world who are willing to accept and support you, for who you are regardless of birth, age, sexual preference, current state of life or indeed, religious background. This has helped provide me with the courage to be myself and to not let the outside world and my eventful past get to me. In gratitude for this, I try to help others feel more secure about themselves and show them my support; and I like to think I may have helped others achieve some form of happiness.

PP: Do you feel then that it has helped you acquire a greater understanding of yourself?

DW: I think that the social interaction with the girls in the chatroom, where I am one of the regulars, has really changed me. I am much more open to people now and I am much more sociable now than I was before. I am certainly more talkative, and I don't hide myself anymore. I no longer have a problem with people approaching me, and that has changed me in a big way.

PP: Do you then, feel less isolated as a result?

DW: I used to shun people and certainly didn't like having to approach them but Trannyweb has helped make me see how blessed I am. That I have a family that supports me no matter what; and that I have the best friends one could ever wish for. I know that not everyone has the support of family and loved ones, and know just how different things would be if they did, maybe one day we will all be accepted. I have been full-time for ten months but even now sometimes dread leaving
the house and facing the outside world. But then I think of those many girls still in the closet who are afraid to step outside their own door. But I do it. Why? So others can see that I'm afraid to, and if I can do it so can anyone else. I'm not brave, just more scared of having to stay indoors for the rest of my life.

PP: How much do you feel part of the community here?

DW: Last January I went to the Trannyweb birthday bash in Manchester where I met a number of the girls for the first time. Firstly, I love meeting new people, and socialising and interacting with other girls like me I found simply wonderful. It also taught me a lot. I am a good listener and observer, and it made me realise that though sometimes life can seem very hard, this is a very special thing we are doing. It makes me very proud to be part of a group of very special girls.

PP: To what extent do you think that Trannyweb members are there for each other?

DW: Last October my mother had a stroke and I had to take care of her. I was away for a while and during my absence I got a great many emails from the girls expressing their best wishes and offering their prayers. Knowing these wonderful people were thinking of me and my family made such a huge impact on me. It really helped pull me through and rescued me on an emotional level. And I am forever grateful to the people who did that.

PP: Have you made friendships that you feel will endure?

DW: During the past six months that I have been an actively participating member I have made many friendships and there are a number of people on this site that I'm very proud to call dear friends. And each and every one of those is very special to me, and I hope these will be life-long friendships. The contact I have with these wonderful people goes beyond Trannyweb. Sometimes there are subjects that some people simply are not comfortable discussing in a
moderated chatroom. More importantly, I know that whatever happens in this life, none of us will ever be alone. Because as a community we will always be there for one another.

Wine, Cheese and Chat...

You are cordially invited to our next Trannyweb Wine, Cheese and Chat night in the chatroom on Sunday 9th April starting at 7pm GMT.

Take some friends along too if you like but don't forget to also bring some cheese and some wine. The lovely Miss Justine Cairnes will be presiding once again and the venue, as usual, will be the Trannyweb chatroom which you can get to via this link:

http://www.trannyweb.com/chat.shtml

If you'd like to take over as cheese, wine and chat hostess for an hour or two in your time zone, please let Justine know.

Next TW Girly Night Out

Our next Trannyweb Girly Night Out is scheduled for the Saturday 21st April, in Manchester.

If you'd like to go along, then just drop her a line by clicking here.

Justine is also interested in talking to anyone who has any ideas for nights out around the UK or ideas for new events we could mount. She would also like to hear from people who would like to join our UK Social Committee. Again, if that sounds like you, please drop Justine a line by clicking here. She won't bite.

Justine has also started a forum thread on this subject here, which you could reply to if you would like to get involved.

We would love to hear from anybody who would like to help with putting a night out together, for our American and Australian members (or anywhere else in the world for that matter).

To show your interest just click here to contact Katie.

Anna-Marie Talks To Suffolk

Longtime Trannyweb UK Member, Anna-Marie Trindall talks about her recent experience as a public speaker...

Anna-Marie Trindall
Today I attended a conference at my local college, which was run by Suffolk Inter-faith Resource on behalf of the Waveney community Cohesion partnership and was entitled "Waveney - Our Shared Values".

So many people remembered me from the last time I spoke which was nice of them. Things didn't get under way till after 9.30am which gave me plenty of time to talk to people who'd had similar experiences to me. I did get to meet quite a few people including Cathy Craig who was chairing the thing and Rod Flory, Suffolk Police Constabulary's Diversity Officer who's now invited me to join their LGBT link group, an offer which I have now accepted.

There was a list of eight speakers and I was fourth on the list. I was introduced to the audience before I got up to speak about what it's like to be TS and living here in Lowestoft and how society in general was treating me. I only stood for 10 minutes but once finished I must have received the biggest round of applause of all the speakers.

One question I was asked was, "Do you feel the need to come to these places to put your point across or do you do it because you want to?", to which I replied "Yes, 'cos if I don't stand up & speak for the local TG community then who else will?"

I even had two of the students talking to me & asking all kinds of things about what its like to be TS and I just answered them as honestly and truthfully as I could.

We then all split into groups to discuss various topics. I chose "Hate Crimes" mainly because I have been a victim. Quite a productive discussion followed with everyone having their say. We Broke for lunch and that gave me even more time to talk to people who all said how brave I was for getting up to speak. Some suggested that I must have been nervous, to which I replied, "not at all".

I didn't speak anymore that afternoon because it was just one big Q&A session where everyone joined in. By 3.30 it was just about over but I still got to see some more people before I left.

The main point I got across was that member's of the TG community ARE human and deserve to live our lives as we see fit without fear of prejudice or intimidation. If I had to do it all over again I would because it's something I really do feel so strongly about.
