Welcome to the Trib November was very sad month for us at Trannyweb. We lost one of our most popular members who died during emergency surgery. We have printed an obituary to her a little further down this page. I do hope that December will turn out better. We have just erected our Christmas Tree here in the little trannyweb office. That means there's not much room in here now and every time I sit up I keep bumping my head on the cistern. Maybe one day we'll be able to move into a fancy office somewhere - right now though, everything is cozy, bijou and homely. Speaking of Christmas, we have come up with a great present idea for your tranny friends. Why not buy them a membership upgrade. You can now start a Trannyweb Full Membership Subscription on behalf of another member. It's really easy and will save you having to trawl though countless shops looking for the right present. You'll also be helping Trannyweb. There's more on this in the column to the right. December is also Trannyweb's birthday month - we're seven years old on the 16th! We will be having a little birthday bash on the big day in the chat room, to which you are cordially invited. Just stop by the chat room on the evening of the 16th and you should find our girls celebrating with a little cake with seven candles, some nice cheese and alcohol too! The other big news this month is that Trannyweb has been chosen by The University of Leeds in the UK, to help conduct the largest tranny survey ever. It will start on January 1st and will run for at least a year before the results are revealed. The questions have been written by Lee Middlehurst from the Centre for Interdisciplinary Gender Studies at Leeds University, who already has a Science degree, an Arts degree and a Masters. Don't you hate really clever people like that! LOL! There is more on our survey below but we hope that you will take part and that it will help to make a difference for TG people everywhere. Longtime Trannyweb member, Meredith Newton, has reviewed a book for us this month, by tranny author Julie Anne Peters and promises an interview with her next month. In next to no time it will be Christmas and we may try to bring you a Tranny Tribune Crimbo supplement as we have in previous years. Whichever god you follow, if any, I do hope that the holidays will be good for you wherever you are and that we will all have a safe and happy New Year. Hugs, Katie xxxx

Rebecca was only with Trannyweb for a couple of months but in that time she made a lot of friends and was always in the chat rooms. Always happy and bubbly, she endeared herself to everyone she met. In fact she was in our chat room on the morning of Sunday November 19th when she was suddenly taken ill. Rebecca recently underwent a surgical procedure and had been recovering in hospital. Her death is even more tragic because she was only 19 years old. A book of condolences has been opened here and everyone is welcome to add a message. There is also a forum thread on Rebecca's last wish here. She will be very sorely missed by us all. New Tranny e-Book Bundle from Dr Sakura...

Happy Birthday Trannyweb by Justine Cairns
Hooray! Trannyweb is seven years old on the 16th and to celebrate we will be having a Birthday Cheese and wine party in the chat room, with cheese, wine, beer and a birthday cake too! We'll even have seven little candles to blow out! You are very welcome to attend and before it starts we'll be sending out the usual Trannyweb chat alert to remind everyone on the chat alerts list. We had hoped to organise a night out on our birthday but because of its proximity to Christmas, the girls have decided that we will organise a Trannyweb Birthday Weekend in Manchester, UK, on Friday 26th and Saturday 27th January 2007. If anyone want to put together a Trannyweb birthday bash in the US or elsewhere, please let Katie know. For those who wish to make an early start, the weekend will begin with a night of clubbing on Manchester's Canal Street. On Saturday I will be arranging an en femme shopping trip into Manchester in the morning and early afternoon. If you wish to come along on the shopping trip please let me know so that we can all arrange to meet up and leave together. After the shopping trip, or if you are newly arrived, we will be meeting up in Monroe's bar. We generally meet in male mode (or dressed if this suits you!) in Monroe's, and this gives an ideal opportunity for the girls to get to know one another and to put the new girls at their ease. When the bar closes about 4:00 pm we usually go back to the hotel to get dressed or grab a bite to eat. In
the evening we will be dining at Velvet’s, a very tranny-friendly
restaurant before visiting several bars on Canal Street, ending
up at Napoleon’s (which has become much of a tradition for
the TrannyWeb nights out!). Most of the girls normally stay at the Queen’s hotel (formerly the International) on London Road and on the opposite side of the road to the Manchester Piccadilly railway station. Of course, the choice of hotel is up to you, but if you want to use the Queen’s the phone number to book a room is 0161 236 1010. So why not come along for a weekend of dancing, partying and having lots of fun with your TW sisters at what is already proving to be a very popular event.

Trannyweb and the University of Leeds in the UK are getting together to make one of the world biggest surveys focusing on:
Why? Transgenderism is still seriously misunderstood and we all know of the prejudice transgendered people face everyday. I know personally. My name is Lee Middlehurst and I’m transgendered. I’m doing a doctorate on transgenderism at Leeds University. For several years now, I've studied transgenderism as part of the Centre for Interdisciplinary Gender Studies at the University of Leeds before undertaking my doctorate. I wrote the questionnaire. Trannyweb and I want to make sure it’s carried out properly.
The answers that we get from this survey will give a good picture of transgenderism on a global scale. Yes, this survey does have limitations but it will be a fantastic step towards a better understanding. That’s what surveys should be – a powerful step to greater tolerance, perhaps other surveys and loads of 121 interviews. Yes, personal interviews are maybe things to do later. We can plan that. You can email me with thoughts, experiences, things you want to add that you couldn’t say in the questionnaire. Remember this questionnaire is to be part of us. I may have written the questions and Trannyweb will be administering the questionnaire but it is nothing without all of us. It will give us a snapshot of who we are, show us that we are not alone, that we share so many similar feelings wherever we are and that we are here to stay. The Great Trannyweb/University of Leeds Transgender Survey starts on January 1st 2007. There will be more details in the next issue of The Tranny Tribune. |

New Special Events Chat Room by Justine Cairns
For example, we are looking into running a monthly quiz night in the Special Events room and chat sessions for S.O.'s.
Other ideas which immediately come to mind, are chat sessions for:
The list could be as long as your imagination!
If you are interested in arranging and hosting an event in the room please get in touch with me at justinecairns@trannyweb.com. I will give you all the advice and help I can to get your event running.
Events can be one-off or you may wish to run them on a regular basis. All I need to know is a date and time (GMT) you want to run the event to ensure that the room is not already booked for that time.
It would also be a good idea to write a few lines up for the event in the Trib and the Trannyweb Forums so that other girls will get to know about it, and so that Katie can send out a TrannyChat alert just before the event is due to begin.
So
here's your chance to get talking about the things that matter to you! I
hope you will enjoy our new Special Events Chat Room.

Trannyweb
Book Review - Luna by Julie Anne Peters,
reviewed by Trannyweb's Meredith Newton When we asked long-time Trannyweb member, Meredith Newton, to review Luna, by Julie Anne Peters, she went further and did an interview with the author. We hope to bring you that in next month's issue but here now, is Meredith's review...
Regan is accepting and supportive of Luna, even at the expense of her own relationships with others. Their parents appear to be oblivious as to what is going on; the mother is trying to establish herself as a caterer and has little concern with anyone other than herself, and the father is desperate to make a “man” out of Liam. The
only person Luna can trust is her sister. In male mode, Liam is attractive
and has no problems generating attention, not to mention having a high
intelligence level. Regan,
however, does not quite share Luna’s intellect, and has problems breaking
out of a “plain” appearance, although she is obviously quite
attractive in her own right. Luna has a better sense of fashion and
cosmetics. They make short excursions to places like a shopping mall. Although Luna encounters some hostility, she is determined to move forward. There are moments of joy, and other moments of pain and sorrow, and even irresponsibility. Luna makes a terrible mistake one day for which Regan pays dearly. Julie Anne Peters presents both characters and a plot line that are believable and non-predictable, although the eventual coming out of Luna’s is going to be an issue. This book is targeted towards a younger audience, although I truly believe the people of all ages would benefit from reading this book as it tries to help its readers understand what pain there can be in hiding one’s true self. When people start to find out about Luna there is the shock, anger, and even feelings of betrayal. What also comes forth is “Why didn’t you tell me before?” I
will admit that I am very prejudiced when it comes to Julie Anne Peters
as I have read many of her other works, and now have a friendship with
her. I've also just
conducted an interview with her which will be in the next issue of the Tranny
Tribune. Julie’s website can
be found at www.JulieAnnePeters.com. Please
read this book. You
will not regret it.
