The Tranny Tribune - October 2006

Welcome to the Trib

Welcome to the October 2006 issue of The Tranny Trib.

As usual it's been busy at Trannyweb, since our last issue a whole month ago. As we head towards out 7th birthday in December, we've decided to bring back our Half Price Full Annual Membership Sale for a very limited period only and this time it's even better.

The deal is that is you upgrade to Full Annual Membership now, you'll not only get your Full Annual Membership at half the normal price, but you will also get your first month free, so if you decide that Trannyweb is not for you, you can cancel your Full Membership subscription at any time during your trial period and you won't be charged at all.

We have TW girly nights out taking place in both Los Angeles and in Manchester, UK this month. Our UK event is a spooky Halloween party while back in the states . Lilienne Li will be taking care of our girls in the appropriately named, City of Angels.

For those who are unable to make it in the flesh, we have yet another Cheese and Wine party in the chat room this month. There's more on that and the other events below.

I'm pleased to say that last month's girly night out in Baltimore, MD, went very well indeed and was well attended with around 25 girls showing up. Our thanks must go to BarbiJo for putting the evening together.

Our own Trannyweb police lady certainly caused a stir in last month's issue. We hope to have more on the law as it applies to trannies in the coming weeks.

We have two celeb interviews for you this month. Frances Taylor has been talking to BBC Radio Two presenter, Janey Lee Grace, about her new book, Imperfectly Natural Woman" and our own Bennie Lee is running for office in the US. Of course we all want Bennie to succeed so "Vote for Bennie"! More on that to the right...

I've started work on next month's Tranny Trib already and we'll be looking at Transgender and Buddhism and dressmaking, among other things. Anyway, I hope this month's issue is a good read. It certainly was fun putting it all together.

Hugs, Katie xxxx

New Live-Stats and Girls Online

As the internet evolves things do get better and better. We have just introduced a new way of showing you who is online at any given time.

Under the old system, our site statistics were only updated when you moved to a different page, so if you were in the chat room for an hour, the stats would not update at all during that time. the same went for our "Girls online now" box.

However, we have now come up with a way of making it all update in real time, right before your eyes and without you having to change pages to find out if your friends have arrived yet.

We have also now added thumbnail photographs to our "Girls online now" box, which is another reason why it is important that all of our members upload a head and shoulder picture of themselves.

If you would like to upload your picture now, please click here to go to the photo upload page.

Please remember that sexually explicit and obscene photographs are expressly forbidden at Trannyweb.

Bennie Lee for President ...

Longtime Trannyweb member, Bennie Lee, has decided to move into politics and to run for office. Katie Glover caught up with her this week...

KG:  What office are you running (or standing) for and when does the election take place?

BL:  I am the Libertarian candidate for the Kansas House of Representatives, District 104.  The House of Representatives and the Senate comprise the Kansas State legislature.  The election takes place on November 7.  By the way, my name will appear on the ballot as "Ben Ferguson", not "Bennie Lee".

KG:  What motivated you to become a candidate?

BL:  I subscribe to the basic tenets of the Libertarian Party.  The party is dedicated to the defense and preservation of personal civil liberties.  Also, the party just a few years ago won a case in the Kansas Supreme Court which allowed their candidates to be included on the official printed ballots for the first time, so candidates are needed.  It's also just a lot of fun for me.

KG:  Are transgendered issues a part of your campaign?

BL:  Not overtly so, but the fact that I'm "out" to everyone who knows me should demonstrate to voters that trannies can be just as civic-minded as anyone else.  I think that the general population, especially in my district, regard trannies as perverted, even mentally ill.

They don't realize that trannies come from all walks of life and social strata all over the world.  I think of my candidacy as being of the same nature as a black person who might have run for office here in the late fifties or early sixties.  Win or lose, someone has to be first.

Trannyweb Girly Night Out in Los Angeles - All Aboard

There's still time to join us for our big Trannyweb Girly Nite out in Los Angeles on Saturday October 14th.

Organized by the lovely Miss Lilienne Li, this will be our first such excursion in the fair city of angels and we hope that there will be many more.

The girls will be going out for a meal first (probably Thai) and will then go on to a tranny club like Club 7969 (formerly Peanuts) on Santa Monica Blvd in West Hollywood which is totally tranny friendly and has two full bars and a disco.

If you'd like to go along, please let Lilienne know. You must confirm that you can make it though because we need to know how many seats to book at the restaurant.

As always with our Girly Nites Out, there is no charge to come along (although you will have to pay for your own meal, drinks, entrance fees, etc). What we mean is that we don't charge you to be with us in our group. As long as you are a tranny or SO and are a Trannyweb member, you will be most welcome.

Unfortunately we are unable to accommodate admirers.

So come on you California Girls. Get those stilettos on and join us for feminine fun in LA. You can contact Lilienne for more info by clicking here.

Trannyweb Girly Night Out in Baltimore, ML

Thirteen girls showed up for our dinner at The Mount Vernon Stable in Baltimore, MD, on Saturday September 16th.

The food was fantastic and we all had a great time getting to know each other. Then it was off to the Hippo for all the fun. Twenty-five Trannyweb girls showed up for dancing, drinks, and just being themselves. Overall, it was a night to remember.

Trannyweb's Barbijo Baker hosted the evening and she did a great job.  Barbijo is our Girl Friday in Baltimore and really worked hard on putting all this together. We owe her a Big Tranny Hug and many thanks for all she does.
Look for more nights out here in Baltimore and also our forthcoming coming New Years Eve Bash!!!

Trannyweb UK Girly Halloween Party in Manchester

This year's Trannyweb Halloween Party will take place on Saturday 28th October in Manchester.

If you would like to join us for the dining experience part of the evening, please let Maryanne or Justine know as soon as possible so your seat can be booked.

Gloria Glover will be flying in from the USA (on her broomstick), and those who have met her before will know that she knows how to party!

And if you haven't met the famous Gloria before, well now's your chance!

All of our special ladies and their SO's are welcome to attend so please do come along in your best ghoulish girly costume.

Next Cheese and Wine Evening...

We will be holding another wine, cheese and chat night in the chatroom on Sunday 22nd October starting at 8.00pm GMT.

Just bring yourself along with some cheese and some wine. Justine Cairnes will again be your hostess and the venue, as usual, is the Trannyweb chatroom which you can get to via this link:

http://www.trannyweb.com/chat.shtml

It would be fabulous if some of our girls in different time zones could take up the baton of hosting it at, say, 4 hourly intervals so it could continue around the world.  If you'd like to take over as cheese, wine and chat hostess for a four hour slot in your time zone, please let Justine know.

Join the Social Committee...

If you'd like to join the Trannyweb Social Committee and perhaps help to organize some girly nights out in your part of the world, please contact Katie by clicking here.

If you have any other special talents which you think may be useful to Trannyweb, like marketing or press liaison skills, or a background in a transgender-related area, please do also get in touch.

Janey Lee Grace is a former backing singer with Wham and is now a co-presenter on the Steve Wright Show on Britain's most popular radio station, BBC Radio 2. Janey is also a mother of four children and has written a book entitled "Imperfectly Natural Woman" - a sort do's and don't's of Eco-friendly living. Trannyweb's Frances Taylor spoke to her...

FT: I appreciate from your initial response to my request for this interview, you have not had much contact with Transgendered people, apart from those termed "transvestites" or cross-dressers. We have here at Trannyweb over 30000 registered members that transcend the whole gender spectrum. Many of whom are as interested in a chemical free world as you are, especially the chapters in your book on cosmetics, more of that later. I wonder if you could tell us, what got you interested in Eco-friendly living to begin with and why you think it is important?

JLG: I think it’s important to stress that I am passionate about the ‘holistic’ approach.  I became a vegetarian many years ago and felt better, more energy etc. Incidentally I don’t advocate everyone should be veggies (though you should ‘know your organic cow’ if you do eat meat) but it suited me. I then felt I should look at what else impacts on my ‘wellness’ – everything from vitamins and minerals, to the power of the mind so I had some holistic treatments and some counseling.    With regard to ‘green’ living I rather selfishly didn’t even consider it until I had my first baby and realised there may not be much of a planet left for him!

FT: One of the benefits of cross-gender hormone therapy is that, over the course of time the skin get softer, more akin to a gender girl's skin. However it would appear that is not enough, even for gender girls. I assume this because in your book you extol the virtues of "Coconut Oil" for a complete chapter. I visited my local Asian shop and found I could buy 500ml jar for 2,65 euros. Can so cheap a product be better for one's skin than the more fancy products one see's in the shops?

JLG: Absolutely, one school of thought says don’t put anything on your skin that you can’t eat, well you can (and should) eat coconut oil but it’s an amazing moisturizer too.  It’s very cheap as you say but you can get a wonderful organic one from www.coconoil.com  a bit more expensive but still cheaper than your average department store cream.   Incidentally you can also use it as a hair conditioner – leave it on overnight unless you’re expecting a night of passion!

FT: The appealing, thing about your book was the fact that you were not promoting any specific brand. You have given a number web-sites especially in the cosmetics section. Cosmetics are obviously very important to us “girls”.  Could you expand on why you think natural cosmetics, would be better for us than, for example Mac products?

JLG: I’m not on commission from anyone. I aim to be completely neutral and only promote what has worked for me.   Most skincare products and cosmetics contain a hair-raising number of potentially toxic synthetic chemicals that could over time lead to chronic illness.    I don’t want sodium laurel sulphate, parabens, petrochemicals or perfumes when there are natural alternatives available.

FT: Care and maintenance of our clothes is also important, you talk in your book about "soapnuts" and other aspects of clothing care, could you tell us more about these soapnuts and other things, that maybe of help?

JLG: I’m proud to have introduced ‘balls and nuts’ to the nation when it comes to laundry.  Regular detergents are full of toxic chemicals that are bad for our skin causing irritation and potentially eczema and also to the environment as the waste goes into the rivers etc.  Laundry balls work by ‘ionising’ the water, soapnuts are an entirely renewable resource – they grow on trees.  Put a few soapnuts shells in an old stocking or muslin bag and chuck it in the drum, when in contact with water the shells release ‘saponin’ – soap ! If you want to continue with washing detergent use a more natural ‘green’ brand.

FT: Your book is in a sense very conversational, as if you are talking across the coffee table to your girl friend, this is especially so in your "Feminine Care" chapter. Obviously aspects of that chapter are patently beyond members of this community. However "Social Integration" is an essential part of transition. The things you discuss in this chapter are I believe very much a need to know, in order to help with that Social Integration. My question in this case is somewhat esoteric - do girls between themselves talk about such things, in a manner such as you have done?

JLG: Absolutely – in great detail !  How else would we know what’s good?

FT: Lots of our members live outside the UK, however like me, they listen to the radio over the internet. When will you be back on on Saturday mornings, do you do updates on new things you have come across in the show, also will the be able to e-mail you with questions at this time?

JLG: Sadly the Saturday show now comes form Birmingham so I won’t be travelling there.  I am on radio 2 three days a week with “Steve Wright in the aft Afternoon” and I hope soon to set up my own podcast show through my website – a TV series would be nice too!   My website will soon be revamped and contain lots more info and updates.

FT: The questions I have asked, have mostly been I think pertinent to concerns of my community. While by your own admission, you have little experience in this regard. In summation are there any other things you would like to say?  The floor is yours.

JLG: Always look at the holistic picture. I’m imperfect I don’t get everything right but I want to eat locally sourced organic food where I can, care about the environment and reduce the toxic chemicals in my home and on myself.

I hope you enjoy the book and I’m happy to answer emails where I can. Please take a look at my web site at:
