The Tranny Tribune
September 2002

Hello girls. September's here again already. How quickly it comes around. I was hoping to be able to report that we now have a new server and a new site with all kinds of great bells and whistles, but these things always seem to take much longer to happen that originally anticipated. A little cash flow crisis has got in the way this time. I hope to soon have it sorted out so keep watching this space for news of the all new improved Trannyweb.

Thanks to all who filled out our Great Trannyweb Survey of 2002. The results have been very helpful in helping me to know which way we should try to steer Trannyweb in future. If you haven't done the survey yet, it's only got 10 little questions and it's still available here.

Thanks also to everyone who signed up to help in the fight against cancer. If you haven't already done so, you can still sign up now at http://members.ud.com/projects/cancer/index.htm. It's free and could one day help save your life!

In this issue Shelly Caprilla tells us about a night she spent out in the city and Rikki Radoula continues her very popular series on Coming Out. There's a sneak preview of the new Trannyweb, which is coming to a site near you soon - promise!

We also have more SPECIAL DISCOUNT OFFERS FOR OUR MEMBERS and there's the usual call for International Tranny Journalists. By the way, if you'd like us to advertise your tranny event, free of charge, just drop us a line at events@trannyweb.com.

And that's it - this month's Tranny Tribune!

Hugs,

Katie - Editor Girl

1. STEPS TO COMING OUT (part 4) - Myths of Passing - by Rikki Radoula

Jasmine and Vicky - The two gorgeous hostesses of Trans-Mission - Just to show that being glamorous is more important than passing

As this is the 4th article I have written on Coming out - let me recap briefly on what we have covered in the first three article - all of which you can find in the archives at the bottom of this page.

Part 1 was about getting help - Ask friends - seek professional help with makeup, hair and clothes, read women's magazines to acquaint yourselves with what is fashionable, and start taking a much greater interest in skin care and hygiene.

Part 2 I talked about finding the women inside you - Don't act like a women, let your natural feminine instincts take over and override the male social conditioning by simply being more aware of the way women behave and finding ways to socialise with them more.

Then in Part 3 I looked at the importance of style - finding ways to move past just dressing in women's clothes - to dressing in a way that suits you - and that means leaning how to dress in an entirely new way, experimenting with looks till you find one that feels right.

In Part 4 I want to address the greatest of all challenges - Passing. So many people I speak to are not out because they fear that they are going to get read and someone will see that they are not a woman, they are a man in a dress.

Now I know that I can look stunning - well that is what I am told by some friends - and I have even had women stop me in the street to tell my how stunning I look. What a compliment - BUT…

Rachael, Jane and Rikki - Two trannies and a real girl - notice how women seem to be dressed down when they are with trannies
OK I looked great - I was even told that looked better than most of the women there - but I didn't pass because they saw a man who looked stunning in a dress - they even said I had to look twice, I thought you were a women - But they still read me. And this is the most important lesson I have learned - I no longer need to pass - I just need to look fantastic as I am - Transgender. I love a compliment as any women would. I know I "Scrub up well" but I am proud that they are impressed because they know that underneath all this I have male body.

If you are Transsexual you may not go along with this because many TS's want to be able to integrate into life and be accepted as a woman. They often go back into a closet of secrecy pretending now that they were never anything other than a woman. They do get read - I know because I used to hear the comments when I was in the closet - and if they try to deny their origins - they become the butt of jokes. But coming out and being proud to be transgender, interestingly seems to claim respect - Women in a male particular now treat me as a woman - even though they I am transgender. By following my first three steps to coming out I present a female persona - they lose all sense that they are talking to a man because the women inside of me is in control.

When I walk down the street, 90% of people see a women, because my sense of style, my make up, my walk, my body language - all say woman. The size of my hands and head, my 6 ft plus stature in heels, my extra pounds all seem to not stand out - because my persona is feminine. What I wear in the street shopping is in keeping with what a lot of other tall women wear.

But when I talk they are going to hear a male voice. I have raised the pitch a little, and sometimes I am not read - but usually I am. So now I have decided not to try to pass - I am who I am and no one seems to mind at all - they like who I am - a very attractive transgender man/women.

There is another great fear of being out - What about people recognising the man underneath. Well frankly there is not a chance - the transformation is just too great. First no one is expecting you to appear in a dress- because they probably don't know. Second even if they do see a man in a dress - they are not going to recognise you under all that makeup and definitely not with that wig!

Rikki Talking at Dinner - This was at a gala dinner where every one knew me as a man but no one recognised me at first and in this picture, the person I am talking to is an attractive women

I recently went out with a Trannie friend and some of her girlfriends I did not know. However a girlfriend I did know was supposed to be joining us - but apparently she could not make it and I was introduced to the other girls when they arrived to pick me up. I had been chatting away to them all for ten or fifteen minutes before they all let me in on the secret - my girlfriend who could not come - was there - in wig an make up as I have never seen her before - I just had not recognised her.

I love Thailand and love meeting the Katoey (Thai Ladyboys) when I am there. They are stunningly beautiful and to most people, impossible to distinguish from real girls - yet I can read almost 90% of them at a glance - and they, in many instances, do not try to pretend to be anything other than what they are. Why can I read them? They are taller than most women and they are in the main much more beautiful than any Thai women. Have you noticed that most women cannot do drag - they cannot get away with dressing up glamorously. An ex partner of mine on the occasion they she went to out with me dressed - purposely dressed down - because she could not compete. She was also terrified of being mistaken for being transgender.

So my advice - Don't worry about passing - concentrate on looking the best you can - dress to impress, and you won't need to pass - you can be proud of who you are Transgender.

2. RED NAILS TO THE CITY by Shelly Caprilla

From earliest memories to the present, my journeys out of the closet have almost always proven to be an adventure. This warm summer night would certainly prove to live up to my expectations. My premeditated plans were moving forward like clockwork for a night out prancing around in the city.

I lounged around my house pampering myself all Saturday afternoon. Bathed and buffed, I was dressed and ready to head out in full bloom. First stop was the gas station located on a nearby highway. As I instructed the gas attendant to fill my tank, he was obviously more interested in my legs. He found his way to the pump, started filling my car and proceeded to clean my windshield. I tried to look busy searching for something in my purse, when I noticed him starring at my cleavage. I had just repositioned my breasts nicely in their cups. Guess it worked! So far the night was off to a good start.

After paying for the gas , I got back on the 2-lane highway and connected with the interstate freeway further on up the road. The destination, a nice nite club with good dance music where some of my girlfriends socialize. Half an hour drive to my favorite dive.

Within minutes after getting on the freeway, I was flirted with by a strong chinned tractor trailer driver. He stayed with me the whole ride guiding me to my exit. Highways should just be called bi-ways. At least every forth driver goes out of his way to check me out and let me know it. I take it as a complement, especially since they don’t even suspect the uncomfortable truth that is tucked away with precision beneath my skirt. We exchanged waves as I got off the exit.

While fluffing my hair I entered the parking lot, parked the car and went inside directly to the ladies room. Inside, I fixed up my makeup and hair just a bit and then went upstairs to the main part of the club. It was the usual scene with the usual mix of partying characters consisting of trannies, crossdressers, lesbians, guys, queens and kings. The drag show was running late so the DJ was keeping things alive. I went to the bar and saw two of my friends Becky and Tina sitting at a table.

Richie The Bartender handed me my favorite drink and I joined the girls at the table. When the Drag Show started at 10:30, we sort of split up in the crowd, where I met a man that seemed to like my tushie more than the show. I wasn't really pleased with his manners. I saw Tina and called her over and eventually lost him in the crowd.

After the show we found our way back to the bar to talk. That is when I met Lynn, a real nice girl who's a school teacher by day and a bit butch by night. She was by herself sitting next to me at the bar. She kept looking over at me and we started to talk and really hit it off. I have never been with a lesbian before and Lynn hasn’t been with someone like me before. Before I knew it, the 2AM last call was announced and the pub began to clear out. We were both really having fun talking and I told her of my plan to head into the city and go to an after hours club that served till 4AM. She asked me if I would like to go with her, we so we left the pub and fled to the city. Earlier, I was planning to go to a trannie club down in the south village where a friend of mine was the host for the night. It's a wonderful place where all the girls glow in beauty.

Regardless, Lynn had her sites on the lesbian bar across the street. So she grabbed my hand and pulled me into the club. From that point on I was her date and my money was not allowed out of my purse. We kept getting more good vibes from each other yet it seemed awkward to be in this situation. She must have told me three or four times that I was really hot but she knew that I was lacking something that her other girlfriends were born with.

Apparently my fem side has been really shinning through since I started oestrogen therapy over a year ago. Lynn and I started holding hands and I placed my head on her shoulder while she held me. I was very relaxed and yes very excited. As things go there was a drunk brother and sister team hanging out next to us. The sister was out of it trying to hit on Lynn, but the brother wanted me! Would not leave me alone for nothing until Lynn put her foot down. She proclaimed that I was her date and for the two of them to leave us alone or else! We stayed until dawn and then she invited me over to her place...

Yet another memorable night out of the closet!

4. THE ALL NEW IMPROVED TRANNYWEB - SNEAK PREVIEW!
Yes, I know, I seem to have been going on about the all new, improved Trannyweb for as long as most people can remember, but it is a subject very close to my heart. When I started Trannyweb back in 1999, it was just a tranny search engine. Since then it has evolved as various new bits of code and PERL scripts have been added to provide the forums, chat rooms, birthday reminders, calendar, instant messaging and back office admin functions.

However, because all those little bits of software were added at different times and written by different people, they don't really talk to each other and each is a law unto itself. Together, they are also very processor and memory hungry which accounts for the slowness of the site and the strange happenings that occur when a lot of girls are using Trannyweb at the same time. Our server is also in need of an upgrade and I would dearly like to be able to cut out the middle men and host it myself.

And if I had a dollar for every time a member suggested we should get a photo gallery or a personals classified ads section or a host of other features, I would be a very rich girl.

Well all these things cost money and up to now, the only income we have had has been from the banner adverts you see on each page and the odd donation. I have been saving myself, to buy some new dedicated community software for some time. One or two of our girls have also made generous donations towards this project and we now have enough to buy the software.

I thought we were in a position to have it installed a couple of months back, but the server issue prevented that from happening. I think we will soon have that sorted out with a loan and we'll then be able to continue installing the new Trannyweb community. It will take a few weeks to install and set up - it's going to be a huge job!

So what's in the new package? Well, all the things that you have been asking for - more robust chat rooms, public and private photo galleries, classified personals ads, and that's just the start! With our new software, we'll be more like Yahoo. You'll be able to start your own Yahoo-style club, with your own forum, chatroom and photo galleries. As a member, you'll be able to arrange your own Trannyweb home page in a way that suits you.

In our recent survey, we asked "If we introduced a hosting service, would you host your web site with us"? A huge 45% said YES and a further 30% said Yes, depending on the cost. Well, now for the first time, we'll be able to offer websites with a host of features to our girls, at a very reasonable price. We can also now offer hosting for business websites - just contact katie@trannyweb.com for more details on that.

We'll also be offering Trannyweb mail accounts, much like Hotmail but for trannies! And when you sign up for any level of membership, remember that you will be helping the Trannyweb cause too.

Levels of membership

We hope to pay for all this by introducing several levels of membership. Non-members will still be able to browse the forums and look around the site. Our basic level of membership will be FREE and will offer all the same features you are used to now, including access to the chatrooms and posting in the forums.
