The Tranny Tribune - December 2008

Welcome to The Trib...

Christmas is here and this is my last Tranny Tribune as Editor.  Next month we hope to see in the New Year with a new Editor and a new format for The Tranny Trib.  I will still be around though as I'll be staying on as Publisher and will also be contributing articles and interviews to our new revamped newsletter.

Apart from being our Christmas issue, this is also our 9th birthday edition as well.  We don't remember exactly when Trannyweb was started but we do know that we registered the domain trannyweb.com on December 18th 1999, so we are now in our tenth year.  Happy ninth Birthday Trannyweb.
This is my last chance as Editor to ask why you haven't read my book, "Katie Glover's Girl Guide" (unless you have of course)?  If you had written a book I'd have read yours!

It's available only as a downloadable, digital book which means no messing around with plain wrapping and delivery.  It also means you receive your book immediately.

You can download your own copy of of "Katie Glover's Girl Guide", by clicking his link.

In my editorial last month, I mentioned that the very first edition of the Tranny Tribune from October 2001, had been lost forever and that we only had copies the Trib from issue number two onwards.

Well I am now pleased to report that the elusive first issue has been found!  It was nestling in that crevice down the back of the sofa and was covered in verdigris.  However, after a quick rub down with some liniment oil, it's nearly as good as new.

That first issue was only ever available only as a text file and you can see it by clicking here.

Our Trannyweb Short Story Contest 2008 is finished now and the winner is...well you'll have to read on to find out.  Thanks to all who participated though.

Although she didn't win the recent US Presidential Election, Bennie Lee Ferguson did become the first openly transgendered presidential candidate in U.S. history! Maybe next time she'll make it all the way to the Oval Office. There's a round-up of her campaign below.

I'm pleased to welcome back Michelle Hart's hard hitting column.  This month she's walking like an Egyptian.

There's also a new opportunity for you to make some real money by joining our new TrannyAds network.  Just by placing our advertising code on the pages of your transgender related web site, you can start earning proper money immediately, every time a potential customer clicks through to one of our advertisers.  There's more on that below or just click here to join now.  If completely free.

And my very last TW Celebrity Interview before I step down as Editor, is one I am really glad to say I conducted during my chequered career, with a lady who provided me and my contemporaries with much entertainment during our teenage years - rock legend Suzi Quatro!

Finally, I hope you will join me in welcoming your new Tranny Tribune Editor, Meredith (Scoop) Newton into the fold and wishing her the best of luck for the future!
Hugs, Katie xxxx

The Michelle Hart Column - Walk Like An Egyptian

by Trannyweb columnist, Michelle Hart from Dallas, Texas.

Walk Like An Egyptian

For over 3,800 years the Giza pyramid believed to be built as a tomb for Fourth dynasty Egyptian King Khufu remained the tallest man-made structure in the world. It was surpassed only by the 160 meter tall spire of Lincoln Cathedral that was completed around 1300 A.D. The total mass of the pyramid is estimated at 5.9 million tonnes. The volume, including an internal hillock, is believed to be roughly 2,500,000 cubic meters. Based on these estimates building this in 20 years would involve installing approximately 800 tonnes of stone every day. It is believed by some that the architect was Khufu's vizier, named Hemiunu, the son of Nefermaat, a relative of Khufu's.

It's also believed that Hemiunu constructed the pyramid over a 20 year period concluding around 2560 B.C. Manetho gives Khufu a reign of 65 years, which would enable him to build the pyramid by installing approximately 250 tonnes of stone per day. The accuracy of the pyramid's workmanship is such that the four sides of the base have a mean error of only 58 millimeters in length, and 1 minute in angle from a perfect square. The base is horizontal and flat to within 15 millimeters. The sides of the square are closely aligned to the four cardinal compass points within 3 minutes of arc based on true north not magnetic north.

It is a little known fact that the base of the Great Pyramid of Giza is not a perfect square. The base is a 4 pointed star, each side of the pyramid being slightly concave, i.e. each face of the pyramid is indented from the corner to the midpoint of the base. This design feature can only be seen from the air, at certain times of the day. This concavity divides each of the apparent four sides in half, creating a very special and unusual eight-sided pyramid; and it is executed to such an extraordinary degree of precision as to enter the realm of the uncanny.

Viewed from any ground position or distance, this concavity is quite invisible to the naked eye. This explains why virtually every available photograph of the Great Pyramid does not show the hollowing-in phenomenon, and why the concavity was never discovered until the age of aviation. It was discovered quite by accident in 1940, when a British Air Force pilot, P. Groves, was flying over the pyramid. He happened to notice the concavity and captured it in his now-famous photograph.

When you think about all the work that was involved in building one of the eight wonders of the world and that very subtle little secret it gives you pause doesn't it.....?

Hemiunu spent a considerable amount of time working on this grand vision for his King. I'm pretty sure every moment of that twenty year period was spend meticulously going over every detail and every angle to ensure it was perfect. How many of us work that diligently on a project or are willing to devote that much effort to the most seemingly invisible details?

As we sit here on our soft plump bottoms sipping our coco tonight, I would just love to expand on a few thoughts we have covered earlier this year. Oh sure we have covered some of the easy stuff like dressing well and digital flirtations, but tonight I really feel like we should go for a walk. It's cold out tonight so As I slip into my super soft and fuzzy ankle length fur coat before we go, do be a dear and pay very close attention as I seductively slide into it. You see girls there is so much more to a woman's life than just sitting around cackling like a bunch of hen's. It's our subtle movement and the subconscious signals we transmit to everyone around us.

Everywhere I go I blend in seamlessly because my movements are well practiced. I emulate other women and model myself after them. All other girls do the very same thing from an early age.... that's the big secret we will never admit. What we women do is simple, we pretend to be the wonderful women we admire. We behave and do things in a similar manner to our idols. Just admit it you played air guitar while listening to Van Halen, everybody has. All of us have done it at one time or another. We see something and try to copy it. Feminine movement and rhythm is the very same way. You were pretending then and that is what we women still do today. Hemiunu didn't start out as Khufu's vizier, he practiced his trade and mastered his skill and eventually was made a vizier.

Weather he pretended to be a great architect we will never know but Hemiunu was a master at his craft. The nearly invisible indenting on each side of his masterpiece prove it. That girls is what you must strive for. That ladies is your goal. If you truly desire to walk the streets with me and hear the simply delicious clack my heels make when I walk then this is what it takes. Keep in mind though nay will I ever shun a sister but I won't just have coco with anyone.

Before you gal's came over tonight not only did I spend a few moments primping to ensure I'm high in the pecking order, I also had to brew the hot chocolate and get out the serving tray with those simply adorable mugs...

Bennie Lee's Election Roundup

Bennie Lee & Rev. Jackie Carter

I wanted to take this opportunity to thank all of those who supported or expressed interest in my recent campaign for the presidency of the United States.  No politician worth his or her salt is ever expected to express their doubts in regard to the success of their campaign before an election.  However, now that it is over I must confess the obvious, which is that I was aware all along that this was a quixotic venture.  I would like to think that the success or failure of the campaign is a secondary issue and that the real victory lies in having in some small way enhanced the appreciation of the public at large in regard to its perception of transgendered people as serious and civic-minded members of society.

Due to American election laws which, in the case of most states, do not even tally votes for write-in presidential candidates there is no way of knowing how many votes were actually cast for my ticket.  Nevertheless, our campaigns' websites registered over 15,000 "hits."  Additionally, the campaign received coverage from print publications as diverse as the GLBT magazines Liberty Press and Ozark Star and staid local newspapers such as the Hutchinson News in my hometown, as well as Kansas City's Jewish Chronicle.  The campaign was also covered by CBS television affiliate KWCH and Fox News.  Several online publications featured interviews, including the San Francisco Bay TimesSouthern Voice, Arabian Monkey, Pagan Temple, and, of course, the Tranny Tribune.

Personal campaign appearances included speeches to various transgendered support groups and a fact-finding mission to the Middle East and Europe in November of 2007.  It is fair and accurate to estimate that hundreds of thousands of people throughout the world were at least aware of the campaign.

Once again, thank you all for your support and interest, especially the membership and administration of Trannyweb.

Warm Regards,
Bennie Lee Ferguson

Trannyweb Short Story Competition 2008 - Winners!   by Katie Glover

Trannyweb transgender forumsOur Short Story Competition is now over for another year.  The entries are all in and a winner has been chosen from them.

As always, the standard of writing has been very good throughout and so it was quite difficult to choose an overall winner.

Before I reveal who this year's winner is, can I give a mention to two great entries that almost made it to the top spot.

Firstly "Correcting My Walk" by Stephen Whitaker from Virginia, in the United States.  You can read this entry by clicking here.

Our second runner-up is "How I Spent My Summer Vacation" by Mina Sakura.  A well known, professional author, Mina had no problem securing a place in the final three. You can see her story by clicking here.

And finally on to our winner.  In contrast to the number two position, our winning entry came from someone who is not a writer but simply a TG person who has been trying to find herself.  This comes across in her work which is autobiographical.  We particularly like this story because of its simplicity.  It is a genuine account of a first visit to a dressing service and it comes from the heart.

Ladies and Gentlemen, please put your hands together for the winner of The Trannyweb Short Story Competition 2008...

Karen receives Trannyweb Full Membership for a year.  All three finalists receive a Trannyweb Mousemat to remind them of their achievement.

The Trannyweb Celebrity Interview - Rock Legend Suzi Quatro
Suzi Quatro
Suzi on stage recently
She was one of the most successful female rock artists during the 1970's and has since appeared in musicals on the London stage and been a regular cast member in Happy Days.  Any friend of Arthur Herbert Fonzarelli is a friend of mine.  This month I am very privileged to have been given the opportunity to talk to rock legend, Suzi Quatro...

Katie:: Welcome to The Tranny Tribune Suzi.  Firstly please tell us a bit about your background, where you're from originally, where you live now and that sort of thing.

Suzi: I was born and raised in Detroit, Italian and Hungarian background, three sisters and 1 brother...

Katie:  Have you ever had anything to do with the Transgender Community and if so, how were you involved?

Suzi: No

Katie:  I grew up in the seventies and eighties, at a time when male rock stars were almost expected to dress as women.  Platform boots, make-up, long blonde wigs.  What did you think about that kind of thing at the time?

Suzi: I don't mind it..whatever turns you on.. I think things got all mixed up when women got their freedom..starting in the 60's with the pill..and consequently..all the genders got mixed up ..nobody was sure of their 'role' anymore.

Suzi QuatroKatie: As a teenager I loved Devil Gate Drive.  It didn't occur to me what it was about at the time but looking back now, it seems to be about irresponsible parenting.  Is that so?  After all, who would let their five year old go out jiving?

Suzi: Devil Gate Drive was the fictitious street that all kids went to...always the one the parents told us 'not' to go to..its where everything happened..not about bad parenting..just mischievous kids.

Katie: Correct me if I'm wrong but you live in a moated manor house in Essex, UK.  How cool is that?

Suzi QuatroSuzi: Yes I do, for 28 years now.  I settled in England in 1971 and I LOVE THIS HOUSE!

Katie: What was it like raising two children and balancing that with your music career?  Did they think there was nothing odd about having a rock star for a mother?

Suzi: I wanted it all - the successful rock career, acting, stage, everything - and marriage and kids.  I got it but, the marriage didn't survive.  He was my guitarist.  Too close for comfort I guess, but we are still friends and he cooks Christmas dinner every year.

Katie: Do you keep up with current musical trends?  Are there any of today's bands or musicians that you enjoy listening to?

Suzi: I lost music for a while.  I thought it went too predictable - every track sounding the same, no personality.  Now some good bands are emerging, thank god.

Katie: Of all the great things you've done in your life and career, which have you enjoyed the most and why?

Suzi: I enjoy every aspect.. It's hard to choose one but I guess rock and roll is the air that I breathe.

Katie: Apart from being a hugely successful rock star you have also been in musicals on the Suzi QuatroLondon stage, been an actor (Leather Tuscadero in the TV show Happy Days among other things) and more recently, you've become a radio personality.  Is there anything else that you still want to do?

Suzi: I would still like to do a movie.  It's the only medium I haven't worked in so far.

Katie: What kind of movie and what role do you see yourself in?

Suzi:  I'd like to play a gangster.

Katie: What are the main projects you are working on right now?

Suzi: My current album is called "Back to the Drive".  My autobiography is also out now.  It's called "Unzipped".  And then there's my radio weekly show, "Wake up little Suzi", on BBC Radio 2 every Saturday night at 8pm.

Trannyweb Poetry Competition

Here are the entries for our poetry competition, which was dreamt up by Donna Lace.

Donna was supposed to be judging the entries but unfortunately, she has not been well so Katie has picked a winner instead.

The standard of all the entries was very good indeed and one entry was decided upon as the overall best. However, we were unable to contact the author and so the next best in Katie's humble opinion took the first prize.

That was A Wasp by Tiina Tamsalu - simple but effective and well written.

The winning entry is reproduced below and Tiina will receive a Trannyweb Sterling Silver Pendant for her efforts.

A Wasp by Tiina Tamsalu

Friday afternoon and folks have gone
home for weekend, work is done.
Left in office only me,
better could things never be.

Now there's not a single worry
and I am certainly not sorry
for having closed the business down
and entering our Tranny Town.

As long as things are nice and quiet
I won't even think of diet.
Those forum threads are like a meal
and reading blogs is bargain deal.

I casually stretched my arm.
Oh, no! That brought me harm:
I scream and feel in back of brain
most horrible and wicked pain!

What's up, I first have not a clue,
it just came out of darkest blue.
What is it that this anguish brings?
Indeed, the angriest of stings!

“Girl In Disguise” by Kelly Anne Marsh

See that girl over there behind that disguise?

It’s too bad she listens to all of the lies,

Cause each night she just stays home and cries.

Living her life just makes her want to shout,

Cause this testosterone society just won't let her out.

That shorthaired white male seems to have all the clout.

If she could come out for just a single day,

And give to herself fresh air, and a little play,

But she won't cause she knows, she'd just want to stay.

Heaven knows what would happen if she were found out.

Her views, ethics, and morals would all be in doubt.

Though she could still survive if her heart is stout.

If she ever gets the courage to look around she'd see,

Life’s full of support, like from you, and from me.

For if we all band together, then we’ll truly be free.

But this sad girl remains blind to the fact

That she can break free of that out dated pact.

You know, that one she made with her dad, way back.

That boys are strong and hard, and they don’t cry,

And it’s ultimately their fault when things go aerie.

They cut their hair and to soft things they deny.

To this lonely girl my heart doth weep,

But there are also those who emerge from the sleep.

For you, a warm place in my heart I keep.

So when you speak to some “guy” and happen to see,

That behind the eyes there’s a soft frailty,

Please give courage and support, so their soles may be freed.

By aiding each in the world to realize,

The truth of our own identity inside,

Then we’ll never have to morn, another girl in disguise.

"Different Shade of Grey" by Maruscha

Damned if I do, damned if I don't
fucked if I will, fucked if I won't
now let me get down to emphasize
I tell no lies, open up your eyes
make you realize, the truth's in here
from the heart and the soul
it should be, crystal clear
although I do the best I can sometimes it's not enough
try to be a better man but when push comes to shove
I tend to fail, now watch out: human at work
as I glide off the scale
while I follow the trail
of not quite being male ..

Such a feminine freak several days of the week
judged by my cover but please let me speak
if the meek shall inherit what's in it for me
maybe when they take over they will just leave me be
the enemy within causing controversy and sin
uphill battle I can't win without the love of my kin
so I made up my mind, made up my face
made out to be different, some kind of mental case
give me my space, I don't need your permission
why do you care what kind of clothes that I wear
looking better in a skirt than most women I know
did I say that out loud, guess that means that I'm proud
and no, I'm not gay, although it shouldn't really matter
calculate my fate making brains go scatter
shatter those beliefs, you'd better think outside the box
I got a letter of intent, send to heaven's end
as I gender-bend through life, trying to find my way
battle the beast of burden but I never did pray
to wake up reborn, although I feel torn, lost and forlorn
I need a different shade of grey ..

I need a different shade of grey, binary doesn't cut it
black or white, wrong or right, on or off, it's not enough
and though I found love I still long for something more
should be counting my blessings but I never liked keeping score
now let's get to the core, heart of the matter
I haven't got a clue why I do what I do
should I be wasting my time, trying to find an explanation
while I could just give in, enjoy the sensation
the elimination of guilt is my goal
guess I gotta accept this so-called sickness makes me whole
now I'm on a roll, reaching new heights
step into the world plus winning my fights
switch off the lights if you can't stand to look at me
but you know I'm not leaving, I gotta be what I be
in a different shade of grey ..

"Maidenhead" by Suki

I stole into the night once many years ago
Swathed in silk and lace,
Heart beating a tattoo beneath my padded breasts.
Tip-tap, tippy-tap. My loud stilettos clacked
A lone snare-drum walk to the scaffold dance.

The chill breeze on my exposed almost-bare legs
Reminded me with every step
How wanton this creature, this half-girl was,
Drugged with her own abandon.
How short the invitation of her skirt, how red her lips!
- a ripened cherry begging to be plucked.

My punishment was waiting in each alley, shadow,
Skittering midnight cat out for the same reason
Making my hips sway dangerously with fear.
He – they? – would see I was not ‘she’,
But maddened with anger would take me anyway.

Any way…

My nerve was not the equal of that girl’s desire
And in the shadows stayed untouched, unsoiled
Unriven
Still and always
Unforgiven
Unshriven of her crime

Another time…

"Angel" by Angel

The door is locked, the curtains closed, no one beside me to judge me now
I gaze into my reflection as I in the room, on my own,
Happy with what I see, but sad that I alone I appreciate me,
An experiment gone wrong, a gene broken, chromosome missing
Shamed, abnormal, alone, terrified, that I my secret will be revealed
Will no one ever love me for who I am, for me?
A tear soaks my eyes, though I do not cry,
A carrier bag under the stairs, a secret in my car boot,
I try so hard to withhold the feelings that within me scream and shout,
For in that brief hour, upon that brief moment I can say that I am who I am,
But who will love me for me? Who will love this tranny,
This mess, this excuse for existence,
I don’t have long for time presses on, for upon the hour, she will return, oblivious to my turn,
Innocent of what I am, this tortured individual, she’s married to,
If a problem I have we share each day, how's your day and what’s for tea,
My heart races my mind made up ill tell her now about my secret,
I’ll tell her my passion, of who I am that we together can make a plan,
She will understand how I feel, my feminine side thus revelled,
Off with my make-up, hair and clothes, my false boobs, all packed away, I place the bag under the stairs and wait to greet her with my news, I unlock the door and curtains drawn, I await the time when she arrives,
And upon that appointed hour, words rehearsed a thousand times,
I great her with open arms, I open my mouth, ready for the words to flow,
To tell her I love her so, but that I a secret have, that she’ll understand and how I’d feel,
So here goes, so here goes, I look into her eyes and say those words, I’ve dreamt of saying,
How was your day dear……………….
